National Center for Health Statistics
The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) collects data on vital events
as well as information on health status, lifestyle and exposure to unhealthy
influences, the onset and diagnosis of illness and disability, and the use of
healthcare by all age groups.

- National Vital Statistics System—Mortality Data
Through the National Vital Statistics System, the National Center for Health
Statistics (NCHS) collects and publishes data on deaths in the United States.
The vital statistics general mortality data are a fundamental source of demographic,
geographic, and cause-of-death information. Funeral directors provide demographic
information on death certificates. Medical certification of cause of death is
provided by a physician, medical examiner, or coroner.

WISQARS is an interactive system that provides customized injury-related mortality
data on all age groups.

- National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health
Supported by the National Center for Child Health and Human Development, this
site gives detailed information about this study, including how the data was
collected, what questions were asked, and how the data was analyzed. This study
investigates influences on adolescents that may shape either the resilience
or vulnerability of adolescents and young adults, with attention being paid
to variables in the study participants such as gender, social contexts, race/ethnicity,
and siblings. The data will provide information on youth violence and how young
people deal with that violence.

- Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2006
A joint effort by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and National Center for Education
Statistics, the report examines crime occurring in school as well as on the
way to and from school. Data for crime away from school are also presented to
place school crime in the context of crime in the larger society. The report
provides the most current detailed statistical information to inform the nation
on the nature of crime in schools.
