Journal Spotlights Youth Violence Prevention Training for Health Care Professionals
A supplement to the December, 2005, issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine focuses on youth violence prevention training for health care professionals. This publication is a collaboration of the CDC and its grantees, the Academic Centers of Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention (ACEs), and includes several articles detailing ACE projects.
The introduction to this supplement includes remarks from the U.S. Surgeon General and commentary from several researchers on the current state of youth violence prevention training in the health professions, and approaches for its improvement. The first section of articles addresses youth violence prevention training for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals; part two focuses on training for public health professionals. A third section covers health professional training on specific issues, such as child maltreatment, youth who witness violence, homicide survivors, and collaboration with schools.
The American Journal of Preventive Medicine (AJPM) is the official journal of The American College of Preventive Medicine and The Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine. The AJPM publishes original research on interventions aimed at the prevention of chronic and acute disease and the promotion of individual and community health. Subscriptions are available in print and online at www.ajpm-online.net.
